From the Pastor
While I was on vacation Federal Judge Susan Bolton prevented the implementation of the most controversial portions of Arizona immigration bill 1070. The talking heads and opinion writers had much to say about this. But as always, I prefer to form my opinions on this matter with the assistance of the church and her teachers, the bishops.

Letter to the Congregation July 18th |
Last week’s Gospel account of the Good Samaritan is an inspiring way to look at how we are responding to the Lord’s command to love our neighbor as ourselves. Over the centuries the Church has catalogued lists of the different ways we can show mercy to one another. The two most famous are the lists of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. These traditional lists are not intended to be all-inclusive—there are many others ways in which we can and should demonstrate mercy and love to others—but they encompass the larger areas.

Letter to the Congregation July 11th |
The Vatican Pontifical Council for Culture has teamed up with an international bio-pharmaceutical company, NeoStem to educate Catholics and others around the world about the benefit of adult stem-cell research. The Vatican is committed to helping pastors and Bishops develop a better understanding about this research so that we can respond to bioethical questions raised by Catholics at all levels of the Church. Because of poor journalistic reporting and general misinformation regarding this complex issue, many Catholics are not aware of the distinctions between embryonic and adult stem-cell research.
